Project Description:

This is a special project to try to determine if it is possible to disrupt or otherwise impact the potential for HAB events in a targeted area of the lake, in this case the CSM swim area.   There are three thrusters placed in the water producing a current northward through the swim area.  SUNY Brockport is sampling the water regularly throughout the summer and fall.  As no HAB events have occurred in 2025 while the Thrusters were operating, the current plan is to repeat the testing in 2026.

Immediate Needs:

  • The only activity left for this year will be to remove the thrusters and their frames from the water – sometime before the end of October.  Curtis Levermore will be working with Randy Ellison (CSM Facilities Mgr).  If anyone wants to join, you may want a wetsuit or drysuit!

Current Team Members:

  • Curtis Levermore – Project Lead
  • Gene Bolster – Instigator and Advisor
  • Don Denney – Electrical Consultant
  • Marty Schuh – Fabrication Support
